Michael Mandau shares with us some pictures of his Aufklärungspanzer 38(t). The model was built straight from the box and is the 1/35th scale offering.

Pretty neat, Michael, pretty neat! Looks like a somewhat exposed and dirty recon 38(t), much as one might expect of such a vehicle. The coloration and camo look realistic, and the bits of grass and leaves add a certain field ambience to the machine. The "old color inspection hatch-cover" is an interesting touch - I'm not sure such could realistically have happened late in the war, when these vehicles were produced and used, as probably most, if not all, extant 38(t) (potential parts-donors) would have been either already painted in later colors and in service with anti-partisan units, or they would have been old depot queens, or tanks handed off to minor armies... But I like the look, regardless! All in all, mostly a very nice job and presentation! As you have added grass and leaves to the tank hull... I would expect some to also be in the tracks, which look a bit too clean, given the vaguely disreputable look of the uppers. Just my opinion, of course. The one thing I think I don't like is that flag on the rear deck. NOT because it would be representing a NAZI battle flag - but because these would not have been placed out for aerial recognition and "friend or foe" ID late in the war, and not on a forward recon vehicle like this. Using these flags for aerial recog was something done back when the Wehrmacht was advancing and the Blitz under way - when Germans ruled the air. A JABO would have spotted that red flag a few miles away and... pzzzatt! bang! and this little dooge would have been toast! It's one of my fav vehicles among my fav line, the Pz.38(t) in all its versions - you have done a good job with it, friend! "Drei bier, bitte!" Bob

Well... My eye was catched by some big mistake ! I thought it was some prototype or so... but it is a mistake. You just glued the left angled side the wrong way... So making a bullet catching front wall on its left side... Eric

I think I would skip past such hull rearrangements, given as it's darned hard to fix at this point! I recently did the Dragon kit and, IIRC, the sides only fit on one way - but I could well be wrong! I'm not sure what the error is! One can always say something like "well, you know, these things may have been rebuilt by prisoners and slave-labor, and those folks would do whatever they could (get away with) to flummox the NAZI machine!" or "Oops! Und Der Herr Inspektor had arrived back at the plant somewhat in a fog after a long and well-lubricated luncheon down at the Stube..." The ambience is still great, MHO! And put it onto the shelf "best aspect facing out"! Bob
